Restaurants selling or used to sell Banned Foie Gras (UK Production) in Birmingham

Simpson's Restaurant Birmingham
Demonstration 18th July

Police Assault and Breach of Human Rights
After a trusted member of the public tipped us that Simpson's restaurant in Edgbaston Birmingham was recently selling foie gras at a recent summer event we went to have a look for ourselves and discovered that Simpson's thought had slipped foie gras back onto their menu. Staff at Simpson's told us that they were serving foie gras and Birmingham Plus also state the dish WAS on their summer menu:

http://www.birminghamplus.com/items/items.asp?iid=1707

The manager of Simpson's claimed to have discontinued their sale of the dish. However for some reason better known to himself he refused to put this in writing - Therefore we will continue with random demonstrations.  We and our friends will be watching this restaurant very closely.

On arrival of a ridiculous amount of police officers PC O.Evitts grabbed a female activist injuring her arm and stealing her mobile phone- "for evidence". Activists claimed this to have been a breach of civil rights and an obvious abuse of power; as PC O Evitts found out for himself as his department told him to return the phone- How humiliating!

We are taking this assault further- videos to be posted shortly.

The Bucklemaker Birmingham
Continue Selling Foie Gras on Thier Menu's

This restaurant assured us that they would remove foie gras from their menus as they "thought it might be bad for business", however it is now clear they are not going to as foie gras is still displayed on their weekly and Christmas menus.  Be warned this restaurant openly supports and funds animal cruelty.  If you do not wish to be associated with animal cruelty then perhaps you should find another place to dine, remember its you money that helps the animal abusers continue their vile trade.  There are many fine restaurants in Birmingham with a conscience that don't offer this disgusting dish.

The Current objective of the Birmingham Animal Rights Collective
"Stop Birmingham Restaurants Supporting Animal Cruelty"

We are dedicated Animal Rights Campaigners who's main objective is to make Birmingham a  "Foie Gras Free City". Our campaign will not stop until this vile and inhumane delicacy is removed from the menu's of every restaurant and retail outlet in Birmingham.

The production of Foie Gras was banned in the United Kingdom many years ago due to the intense suffering and cruelty that the animals endured during its production, unfortunately the government stopped short of banning its importation and sale,  its this oversight that has enabled restaurants and retail outlets in Birmingham to continue selling it on their premises.  Why anyone in their right mind would fund animal cruelty and abuse is unimaginable but that's exactly what they are doing. This leaves us no choice but to finish the job our governments have failed to do and make Birmingham a Foie Gras Free City.

Good NEWS - Opus Restaurant Remove Birmingham Foie Gras from their menu check out our campaigm diary for more infomration.

Thank goodness we are not alone in our campaign, the RSPCA is appealing to consumers not to buy foie gras. stating that "If you buy foie gras, you are funding the unnecessary suffering of geese or ducks".

We and the majority of people in this country agree with the RSPCA  however some of our restaurants in Birmingham don't. We  would therefore like to make our website visitors aware that the following restaurants are selling, or have sold Foie Gras on their premises.

If you are vegan, vegetarian or simply a lover of animals you may wish  to avoid these restaurants, especially if you are unhappy about the animal cruelty and abuse they so openly support.  The choice is yours.

Hopefully sometime very soon Birmingham restaurants and the residents and visitors of Birmingham will no longer have to hang their heads in shame ....................

We urge you to view the contents of our website so you fully understand why we are taking this action.  Please be aware that you may find some of the images and videos contained in this website very disturbing and that's because every stage of the foie gras production is disturbing, these poor creatures are abused and tortured from day one.  Watch the video's on this page and it will become obvious why we have to take action. Birmingham and the United Kingdom MUST  ban the importation and sale of this product in the UK once and for all.

What is foie gras?  (Play the Video and see for yourself)
Foie gras - French for fatty liver is produced by forcing long metal pipes down the throats or ducks and geese and force-feeding them until their livers become diseased and unnaturally enlarged. This causes them to endure  unspeakable pain and suffering and In many cases, this causes their organs to rupture.   The female chicks being thrown into the funnel in the video are shredded alive because they don't produce top quality foie gras. For more information please visit our 'What is Foie Gras Page'

Animal Abuse, Torture  and Needles Suffering Must End

Whilst we agree that people should be free to make their own choices their has to be limits otherwise dreadful things happen, If you look at the images and videos contained within this website they prove this point beyond doubt. People should not feel free to treat animals in this manner and those that do must be stopped and those that sell their products in the name of profit over cruelty must also be stopped. If these people had any decency and self respect they would stop themselves.

Foie Gras Banned in the United Kingdom
Foie gras is banned from being produced in the UK . Sadly many shops and restaurants in this country continue to import and sell it (which is not prohibited), particularly during the festive period. Consequently, birds elsewhere in the world are suffering to satisfy UK demand for foie gras.

Many people who eat banned (production banned in this country) foie gras are totally unaware of how it is produced and would probably not eat this delicacy of despair if they Knew the suffering involved...... . A ban on the sale of foie gras in the United Kingdom would significantly reduce bird suffering and this is the primary objective of the Birmingham Animal Rights Collective and other organisations throughout the UK.  Please lobby your MP, this would help our campaign enormously, feel free to give him our website address.  For assistance in this matter please visit our 'Lobby Your MP Page'

Birds living in fear
Domestic ducks and geese usually enjoy being hand-fed by humans. However, according to one study, birds subjected to force-feeding kept away from the person who would force-feed them, the birds were extremely disabled well able to move and were usually panting but they still moved away. Even ducks confined to cages moved their heads away from the person who was about to force feed them. The birds often shake when approached by the man with the long metal force feeding tube.

A small sample of printable words that others have said about foie gras

Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations
"The production of fatty liver for foie gras raises serious animal welfare issues and it is not a practice that is condoned by FAO."

Dr. Christine Nichol,
Professor of Animal Welfare, School of Veterinary Science, University of Bristol, UK
"This practice causes unacceptable suffering to these animals."

The RSPCA -  Dr Marc Cooper, RSPCA senior scientific officer
"The RSPCA strongly is opposed to the production of foie gras whereby the birds are kept in cages and force-fed to produce a very large and fatty liver. This is a cruel practice and undoubtedly results in unnecessary suffering. We would encourage any food retailers and restaurants that are currently selling foie gras to seriously reconsider their support for this cruel practice."

Animal Aid - Andre Menache MRCVS
"As a veterinary surgeon who has witnessed first-hand the suffering caused by force feeding of geese, I sincerely applaud Paul Blanchard's initiative."

HRH Prince Charles
Prince Charles has officially banned foie gras from all royal menus and instructed chefs at all of his royal residences to stop serving the dish

Sir Paul McCartney

Sir Paul described foie gras as 'inhumane'

Roger Moore Narrates Foie Gras Video
Sir Roger Moore, a.k.a. James Bond, used to eat foie gras. But when he learned about the dark side of the industry, he vowed never to eat this "delicacy of despair" again, and he volunteered to narrate a documentary about the cruelty of foie gras production. Read more about Special Agent 007's battle against the foie gras industry.

Schwarzenegger Terminates Form of Animal Cruelty
Demonstrating he truly cares about the welfare of animals, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today signed SB 1520 into law, a bill that bans the force feeding of ducks and geese in the production of foie gras. The bill also bans the sale of the product when made from force fed birds, both provisions taking effect in California in the year 2012.

Birmingham Against Foie Gras
If we all work together we can make Birmingham a Foie Gras Free City Forever and stop the madness of the Birmingham Restaurateur's who persist in trading in animal cruelty"

Why would anyone in their right mind eat food produced in this manner... YUK.

However this is a free country (so we are told) and if want to eat food produced like this then please feel free to visit any of the restaurants listed towards the top of this page they will be delighted to see you, you never know you may even see us while you are there.......

Imagine what life must be like being crammed into in these tiny cages, totally unable to move just waiting for the abuse and relentless cruelty to begin. To be honest its not a life at all, this is hell on earth for these poor creatures.

Prince Charles Foie Gras Ban
Prince Charles has officially banned foie gras from all royal menus and instructed chefs at all of his royal residences to stop serving the dish.

Well Done Prince Charles........

Supermarkets - Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer and Co-op have stopped selling foie gras for ethical reasons.

At last some genuine compassion in our food retailers

Chefs Blunder - Some restaurant owners and chef's state that (some) of the Organic Ducks and Geese used in the production of foie gras lead wonderful lives on the farms and only suffer cruelty, abuse and torture for the last two to three weeks of their lives so that makes it completely acceptable....

I'm not sure where these people come from, perhaps their psychiatrists could enlighten us, cruelty is cruelty regardless of the time frame involved. Cruelty and animal abuse will never be acceptable in this country, that's why its production was banned.

If you need convincing further about the horror of foie gras then watch this video but be Warned it contains very explicit images and should only be watched if you understand this. If you are easily upset please do not click on the link.
